The Kapha Couch

Welcome back my blog reading community Vata Buzz, Pitta Torch, and as promised today the Kapha Couch

The Kapha energy pattern is what maintains stability and is equivalent to the bass frequency in acoustic energy patterns Very deep and stabilizing From this description the energetic qualities in the mindbody physiology are cold, slow/ dull, static, heavy, dense, hard, smooth/slimy(mucous), oily, soft(emotional), liquid, gross, and cloudy 

As we can see the Kapha energy pattern is a slow frequency and at the opposite end of the acoustic energy spectrum Vata is in the fast or treble frequency range(recall mobile, light, subtle, clear, dry, rough, and cold)

When the Kapha energy pattern is dominant in the mindbody energy physiology, we would expect calmness, placidity, and high degree of parasympathetic activity Nothing riles strong Kapha when in balance They just move along in grace whereas Vata is sympathetically overloaded when out of balance and stresssssed

Kapha is very sensual due to place on the energy spectrum both in its expression and behavior Where Vata could care less about the sensory experience of eating(too much mobilty of the mindbody to care about taste and smell) Kapha is all about taking in the sensory experience in all its richness

Due to its relationship to the matter field our sensory experience of the Kapha energy pattern is seen in so many of the vibrational frequencies associated with its presence

OK why Kapha Couch Like Buzz and Torch these descriptives are about the energy patterns associated imbalances And Couch refers to Kapha's too much calmness And with it lassitude,lethargy, apathy, listlessness, and passivity Of course these adjectives describe over the top imbalance but we get the pic

How to rock the Couch? Whereas slow down the Buzz, MOVE the Couch!

        Use the pungent, bitter, and astringent tastes

        Avoid the sweet, sour, salty tastes

        Exercise and psychologically motivate ourselves

        Recognize that the Couch is a very addictive behavioral lifestyle pattern in a Vata aggravated society(the one we currently live in!) because it reacts to the constant movement Digging our heels in, ya know

The Pitta Torch

About ten days ago I discussed the Vata Buzz and how to counteract the imbalances created if we happen to be Vata dominant

Well what about the transformantional energy of Pitta or what I'll refer to as the Pitta Torch

Pitta exhibits the qualities of hot, light, mobile, sharp/penetrating, liquid, and oily

And Vata exhibits the qualities of cold, light, mobile, rough, dry, subtle, and clear

Some observations We can see with the shared qualities of light and mobile that PV and VP energy makeups REALLY like to move And that excessiveness of these qualities has the need for grounding

We can also see some difference The hot and sharp/penetrating qualities can make for a very discriminating mindbody which sees through the clutter and gets to the "meat of the matter" Also due to these qualities there is a behavioral tenacity that can occur around getting things done So a competitive nature is dominant Intensity with these two qualities can be dramatic and make for a real passionate individual

But what if these two qualities are in excess? Too much hot and sharp/penetrating leads to increased criticality, judgment, anger, rage and abuse. And physically demanding too much of the mindbody, such that overexercising and physical injury is easy to do And competitive? For the Torch, over the top!

So the Buzz needed grounding but for the Torch, we need to cool off

        Pitta pacifying foods that cool the mindbody(see foodsheal.com)

        Use of a churan to balance yet energetically cool off

        Don't use ice water to cool off

        Sandalwood in soaps aroma oils is beneficial

        Use of cooling spices such as mints, cumin, coriander, fennel seeds, tumeric, fresh ginger and basil in food preparations

        Meditation or try yoga nidra

        Recognize that the Torch like the Buzz is addictive

The latter is an interesting observation because all energy pattern behavior patterns can be loved and hence addictive For the Torch addiction comes in being right, come hell or high water

Many Levels of Energy Science Nutritional Change

                    You cannot do only one thing

The concept of nutrition is not just about the foods that we consume. It encompasses much more.

We are led to believe that if we just change the foods that we take in that will in itself cure the problem, obesity in the current setting.

But I believe that intuitively we know that not to be the case. We know the problems associated with nutrition lie deeper than just food. And although food and drink is important other factors have to be brought into play.

So there are important factors in addition to the foods in the No column (see foodsheal.com)

            Nourish digestive fire 

                    Use of a churan with everything

                    Lifestyle patterns around the nutritional process

                    Be careful not to dilute out digestive fire(too much water)

            Pay attention to food incompatabilities

            Use a sesame oil swish in the morning and scrape the tongue

            Go to bed early

This last one may be surprising to some but Pittas know what I'm talking about because they often get hungry after 10pm and raid the refrigerator and then go to bed. Not a good habit. Perhaps fruit but nothing substantial. If we go to bed early then this obviates the problem.

Healing Requires Feeling

Say your posture needs some work. Your shoulders slump forward, your chest caves, your torso sags. Sometimes it's difficult to get in a deep breath. Ya know, the posturing of fear.

"OK, I've had it! " you say.

"I'm going to do some strength training at the Y. And while I'm there I'll do some yoga. That'll do it."

Ah, all well and good. Sounds like just what the doctor(your own inner healer) ordered.

But I would advocate a missing piece in this determined picture.

I would suggest that the real healing comes when we begin feeling the new posture.

What does it "feel" like to be in that new posture. Because if we can't feel it, we cannot "be" it, whatever it might be. Whether it's posture, emotional strength, or knowing when foods affect us adversely.

Yes, foods make us feel "less than", but we have to be able to tune in.

This is the subtle gift of the energy science nutritional model. In the current matter science nutritional model feelings are left out. We have become very intellectualized about nutrition by measuring everything.

Sounds like a lot of work? No, just a shift in how we do life. The value is there, we just have to find it.

Nutrition: It’s An Inside Job

No pun intended but nutrition is an inside job.

OK, what do I mean by that? From an energy science view the mind and body are intimately spliced. We cannot separate them apart. What happens in the mind happens in the body and vicie versi.

Nutrition is a mind and body process. Our body talks to the mind about food choices and our mind directs food choices for our body.

We can see the Big Rub coming up. Oh, oh, if the mind is screwed up what happens to what the body wants? Forget it, the mind will always win. No doubt.

The body says, "I'd like some steamed veggies according to my mindbody constitutional makeup. Maybe with some ghee."

The mind says, "Shut uuup and eat this pizza! And I don't care whether you'll have heartburn from the pepperoni and jalapenos again or not. Tough it out. Grow up!"

The body says, "I need some refined sugar to cut this raging Pitta appetite."

The mind says, "You know what that most recent study said about refined sugar. You wanna get cancer?"

But bliss arrives. The body says, "I just wanna to be healthy and live a long time.

And the mind says, "Anything you want sweetheart."
