Pharma Versus Foods As Medicines

Bigstock_People_Shopping_For_Produce__3018930

"Mary, it looks from all your tests so far that you have  a nonbacterial inflammation of the bladder," I said

"Well, what can we do about it?  Because I'm miserable"

The choice is yours We can give you some pharmaceuticals that will ease the pain

"Is that all? Isn't there something else? Will the drugs clear the problem?"

"The pharmaceuticals typically don't clear the condition They make the symptoms tolerable"

"If you want to deal with the problem, I think the best option is to use a nutritional approach and to help with the symptoms pharmaceuticals as well  When you're feeling better then the pharmaceuticals have done their job and you can rely on the nutritional work that you started"

Mary paused and considered the options  "Hmmm, well I'm not that uncomfortable  Maybe if I tried the nutrition stuff for awhile and if the symptoms were getting me down I could do something more with the pharmaceuticals?

"Anything works and I think that approach is very reasonable"

I continued, "Using a nutritioanal and herbal approach can be additional to medication but it should be foundational to all healing processes that we undertake  At times however medications and surgery are the early cornerstones of therapy"

This sample dialogue that occurs in my office almost daily now follows the theme that foods are medicines and that treating them as such helps us develop a deep awareness as to how they can impact our physiology

Do you believe foods used properly can be healing? Have you seen the nutritional formats at foodsheal.com? Using foods appropriately for your energy makeup can create a prevention theme to your nutrition

Valid Energy Sciences

Bigstock_Science_7453122

Throughout this blog reference is made to "energy science" so today I'm going to explore this subject in more depth primarily to help our readers understand what I mean by this term

In my way of thinking there are only two qualified energy sciences:  traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) which comes from the Tao philosophy; Ayurveda is the medical discipline within the Yoga tradition of India, grounded in the Sankhya philosophy

We've heard of the terms prana, qi(pronounced chi), ru, ruha These are words to describe the universal energy and specifically for us and our understanding, the biological energy of movement

The energy of prana or qi is composed of the universal frequencies of cold, light, mobile, dry, rough, subtle, and clear The energy term prana is used interchangeably with the Vata energy pattern, the principle of movement

The energy of Pitta(energy of transformation in the biology and universe) The qualities here are hot, light, mobile, sharp/penetrating, liquid, and oily This corresponds to yin in the TCM tradition

Kapha(energy of stability in the biology and universe) correspond to yang(pronounced "yawn") The vibrational frequencies here are cold, heavy, static, oily, slimy/smooth, slow/dull, dense, liquid, hard, soft, gross, and cloudy

So there we have it The contrasting terms of the energy sciences, TCM and Ayurveda

                           Vata(Prana)                   Qi

                           Pitta                                Yang        Masculine       Right side

                           Kapha                             Yin           Feminine        Left side

These energy sciences are very deep and sophisticated in their systems of healing and contemporary "new age" energy theories will have to be understood in light of these ancient systems if they can be trusted in their claims of healing

What makes these energy systems the sciences they are is that they are grounded in an understanding of the  energetic qualities of the universe herself, namely the primordial vibrational frequencies of the universe as described above as qualities(also see String theory)

Multivitamins

   Bigstock_Herbal_Supplements_3323271

Fooducate is a blog that I follow and they had this to say about multivits   http://bit.ly/awfWzb

From this post we can say with reasonable skepticism that multivits are suspect about giving us the nutritional rewards for which we are hoping

There is a saying among medical providers that you may have heard about Americans having the most expensive urine and poop on the planet

But why? Is it the supplements problem? Is it our gut absorption problem? Or is it a combination that lead to their ineffectiveness?

I would contend that it's multifactorial  Our guts are not healthy to absorb what's presented to it

And the products are in a crystalline matrix that are not readily recognized by the normal GI tract The mindbody needs a picture frame around the molecule, say mannose, to be absorbed  Taking powdered mannose would be be as good as taking regular aloe vera, for example

So what should we do?

        Eat whole fresh food cooked

Choose foods according to your mindbody makeup

        Avoid food incompatabilities

Improve digestive fire by using churan

        Take triphala

How much money do you spend on multivits? Are they crystalline or natural formed? Is there value in improving your gut function?

Alzheimer’s Dis-ease and Pitta Appetite

Bigstock_Pastry_4714429

To me the worst health case scenario is early dementia  Vibrant capable friends who illuminate everyone around them suddenly become poorly functioning neurologically  To the point that they don't even recognize us

Did you know that there is more insulin secreted from the brain than from the pancreas? And when the brain begins to produce less and less insulin protein plaque formation similar to what is observed in diabetes 1 and 2 can lead to a different form of diabetes, type 3

It appears that Alzheimer's(early onset dementia) may be a form of diabetes as a result of lack of insulin production

The protein plaques in Alzheimer's "gum up" the works, so to speak, leading to neurological deterioration

So what does this have to do with energy science nutrition? It turns out that  a voracious appetite(Pitta imbalance) treated by using self medicating foods such as white flour and refined sugar is one of the major culprits in the onset of type 3 diabetes or Alzheimer's dis-ease

When Pitta is provoked(out of balance) the appetite can be calmed by using refined sugar and carbs Oh, not good! That means pastries used to calm the appetite is not such a good idea

Here are some things that you can do to help with that raging appetite

Begin using a nutritional format for your energy makeup which means cutting out  refined sugar(including high fructose corn syrup) and white flour

        Exercise regularly

Eat your biggest meal at noon

Don't snack routinely(if you must use fruit according to your makeup)

        Drink water when hungry

Use aloe gel on a regular basis

Have you ever had an appetite so strong that you'd eat cardboard? Did you find that a candy bar took the appetite away? Did you know that the hot quality is suppressed by the cold quality of sweet?

Balancing Bitter and Sweet Tastes

Bigstock_wheatgrass_618652 Mary is in a physically and emotionally  abusive relationship for the last 10 years  A good mother and a loving daughter but there is something wrong here

And yet when you talk with her there is a genuine need to give and give yet a fear of not deserving

From an energy science view this is an imbalance between the sweet and bitter tastes  Tastes are complex energy patterns that have psychophysiologic (mindbody) consequences

There are two emotional energy fields here  The fields of love(sweet) and fear(bitter)  You know, fear is not bad and in appropriate circumstances fear is necessary for survival  So it's an imbalance that Mary is exhibiting; too much love and not enough fear

Too much of the sweet taste leads to love without responsibility  An open heart without boundaries And diabetes energetically  implies lack of sweetness in life  So the lack of sweetness is substituted with something else(in this case abuse that Mary grew up finding was what love looked like to her)

The heart is balanced between the sweet and bitter energy patterns

And of course too much bitter is unhealthy as well  In excess it can cause us to become cynical, boring, isolated, and lonely

Therefore adding more bitter in the diet is great for a society so steeped in the sweet taste  Juicing with greens is an excellent way to bring balance to the body

This balance in nutrition helps us open our hearts and have less fear  People with open hearts look for the finer things, silk versus burlap

Currently we don't have such concepts in our matter science nutritional model but I think we are in desperate need of embracing our psychological in the foods and tastes that we consume

Once you work with the heart you cannot put things in your mouth that are bad for your system When the heart opens those “old friends” can no longer be eaten because they induce imbalance

Have you noticed that if you have a lot of sweet taste that balancing it with another taste can make you feel better?  Do you feel bad when you've had an excess of the sweet taste? What kind of sensations are generated?
