Release of Energetic Imbalances
As we talked about earlier, a Kapha release can look like the common cold, with lots of mucous and cough with congestion An attack of acid indigestion or diarrhea would be an example of a Pitta release due to excess of that energy pattern in the GI tract
Today I'd like to spend some time on this concept of release which is in reality a healing event
What predisposes the mindbody to release?
1 A buildup of a specific energy pattern that accumulates The common example is the spring cold that is a release of the Kapha energy pattern that accumulates over the winter time
2 If we are paying attention to guidelines that foster balance, there will come a time guaranteed, where energy patterns that have been "hanging around" in the mindbody physiology will want to naturally release With that release comes symptoms
So it's either an acute release as in one or a release of pentup energy in two that has been chronically stored sometimes for years or decades The more chronic the longer the relase
There are other energy science techniques that also facilitate these chronic releases that go beyond the scope of this short blog but suffice it to say there are many other tools in the bag
The message is that illnesses that seem to come out of "nowhere" can be explained on the basis of these releases Of course if not simple one should check in with your friendly matter science doc and be sure that there isn't something more serious particularly if symptoms continue and don't resolve

Diet versus Nutrition
The word "diet" has a beginning, a middle and and an end, over a specified time of weight loss It has become a dysfunctional eating behavior
To me this concept is a disservice to us because it makes this transient shift in eating pattern, the diet, just that, transient; a more meaningful approach must supplant it
Diet has a goal; a timeline associated with it And if the mindbody doesn't cooperate then we are disappointed and bummed out And of course, all the self judgements and criticisms that go along with it
What about all the "pain" going through the "diet"? Who wants to repeat that process over and over again over a lifetime?
What I'm lobbying for is a genuine shift in nutrition An energy science nutritional system that gives us all the information to make a lifestyle change in how we approach the process we call nourishment
We don't currently have a system of nutrition that encompasses lifestyle We presently struggle with molecular facts about foods Are poptarts nourishing or not? Vitamin D, omega 3, 6, and 9, lycopene etc
I ask the simple question, "What does eating our biggest meal of the day or enhancing digestive fire have to do with anything about the molecular facts of the foods ingested?" Yet these are as important from an energy science nutritional approach as is molecular facts
Our system of nutrition that we are currently using needs help And it requires that we look at a system of nutrition not diet off again on again

Satiety and Popcorn
I was at the movie theater the other night and we joined the Grand Cinema family by becoming a member Oh BTW we get free popcorn with our membership card!
Sweet deal but the bags of popcorn were pretty small size : (
But something happened to me when I began eating the smaller than normal size bag I decided to eat slower and enjoy each bite And I found myself resolving that this is all there was and this would be enough
Wow, a real revelation regarding perception and eating And now I run across this article from the journal Science for South Africa (http://bit.ly/dySyG3) which asked the question whether at times the eyes are bigger than the stomach That perception of the portion of food drives us to eat more
This is great matter science exploration and gets us closer to the issue of how overeating can lead to obesity Is it at least in part the sensory input of the food in front of us that drives how much we eat?
The energy science nutritional guidelines suggest that we limit the amount to how much we eat at any one time to what can be held in 2 hands = 2/3 of our stomach capacity = 6 on the gas gauge (1= ravenous hunger and 10= stuffed)
We are what we perceive If we feel that we will be satisfied then we'll be satisfied If not, then the study says we won't be satisfied Using the guideline helps quantify and standardize the amount we consume
Satiety as my experience with the popcorn was a matter of my own perception
Have you ever felt that you needed to eat more food than was necessary? Have you had the experience of "eyes bigger than the stomach"? Can you see how perception of the size of portions can play a role in the amount consumed?

Journey of Healing
We notice that something's not right in the mindbody For example, varicose veins, perhaps being overweight, acid indigestion periodically
In that awareness may be the beginning of a journey
The end of the journey is resolution of the problem, whatever it may be
But here's the hooker Questions mount by the mind How long will this take? Will I ever get there? What will I need to do to make it happen? Who will I need along on my journey?
And along the journey Will we ever get there? Am I wasting my time? Is this the right thing to do? Maybe I should be doing something different? Who said this is the right way? Are these the right materials to use?
This incessant questionning by the mind raising doubts are a result of fear
Fear? "Fear of what?", you ask
Not knowing. And this is a result of being out of control And everyone wants to be in control
But the secret here is, we are not in control Sorry to have to break this bad news but it is a fact
We may think we are but we are not
So the biggest obstacle to healing is fear and our loss of control that we thought we have but we don't
And it begins with that first step of awareness Hey something's not quite right(eg varicose veins) Or, hey something's definitely wrong(eg cancer)
And at the end of the journey lies the joy, pleasure, and excitement of overcoming adversity which was primarily the fear residing in the mindbody! You chose and overcame the mind and its fear
You see, the major obstacle to healing anything in the mindbody is not the cancer or the varicose veins It's the mind in fear
Have you ever witnessed the fear of the unknown-a trip, health challenge? Did it seem insurmountable at first? Does this fear seem to get played out over and over again in your life?

Energy Science Nutrition: Eggs
From a matter science nutritional point of view cholesterol and fatty acids are not good for us They are associated with vessel disease leading to heart attacks and strokes
The yolk of the egg is loaded with cholesterol and fatty acids so egg yolk would be potentially detrimental to health
Let's look at this gift from mother hen from an energy science nutritional point of view
Yolk carries Kapha energy because of the heavy quality of the sweet taste; because of the sour taste(fatty acids) and the hot quality it carries Pitta energy
So yolk provokes Pitta and Kapha that it increases these two energy patterns and gives groundedness to Vata
What about egg whites? Good for everyone So the rule of thumb energetically is egg whites all the time for everyone and egg yolk in moderation for everyone Make sense? Great!
Here again the energy science nutrtional subtle nuance helps refine our understanding of this great gift from mother hen The matter science nutritional tradition simply is too gross in its perception of Nature to refine our understanding of food
Have you ever reflected how two of our greatest food substances are gifts from the feminine energy of the Nature, the cow and the mother hen? Is it startling that the feminine energy nourishes us? Why do we call our planet Mother Earth?
