Have we ever wondered if Vitamin C is the panacea for health? Linus Pauling did in his day

Recently it's Vitamin D But we can come up with many molecular equivalents that seem to be the answer to our health problems Or lycopenes may do it

Yet I don't believe we believe it I think there is a lot of discussion about molecules but not a fervent belief that they hold the "Holy Grail of Health"

It is the current thinking that health is held in the molecule That in some way nutritional solutions become the blanket answer for our health issues

From an energy science view there are many different ways to address health and the progressive improvement of it There is "no one way or the highway" approach The energy science medical model addresses the imbalances in the physiology in multiple ways

For example, since nutrition is the foundational piece to health a nutritional format appropriate for one's mindbody constitutional makeup would be a great first step as well as avoiding poor food combinations and the use of a churan

But then there is a daily ritual to help sustain consistent practices such as oil massage and getting to bed at the appropriate times as examples for enhancing lifestyle behaviors

And then there are herbal applications to be applied through the mouth nasal bowel and eyes to affect the mindbody's healing

So my dear readers it is not just the one molecule that will be our panacea but recognize that the approach to healing is multifactorial and the choices are related to the imbalance that needs to be addressed

Herbs and Spices

Food is medicine and herbs and spices are concentrated foods that have specific physiologic effects Spices are herbs and herbs can be spices but usually not

All spices are digestants, that is they improve digestive fire which we have discussed earlier However they fall into two categories Those that give the hot quality to the GI tract and those that produce a cold quality to the digestive fire Both categories aid in digestion but the former category heats the mindbody and therefore will if used excessively will provoke Pitta

These spices with the hot quality are found at the foodsheal.com website and are best used in moderation The cooling spices are great anytime and are the foundation for spices that we would use in the kitchen

So we have discussed the value of digestive fire and now we are adding another layer to our understanding by using spices either with cooking or as a condiment at the table in the form of a churan

Herbs are another step in the natural pharmacy that Nature provides for us and come in many different packaged forms Powdered forms, in oils, as wines, in gels or juices, as roots

As powdered forms they can be used as teas and is a common way to use herbs And any entry point to effect the mindbody is used Skin massage, oral ingestion, medicated enema, nasal or eye placement with drops

So herbs have a broader range and scope of use than that of spices But spices have a specific effect for the digestive fire and therefore used around the nutritional process

But having said that, spices have strong systemic effects as well Tumeric even though used with foods commonly in the kitchen for example, has a marked antiinflammatory and immune enhancing effect

Sanctity of Nutrition

Sanctity?? OK you think I've gone off the deep end

And I think I am taking a big plunge into deep uncharted waters but I think this is important

What we consume isn't just a bunch of molecules that we digesting We are so in a rut about food that I think we have created the Grand Canyon So mired are we in the intellectualization of food and how it causes this and that that we are losing perspective of what is going on

Food's more than this It's a relationship that is being created between the outside and our inside worlds And we are taking the outside world which is us and we are inviting it to become us through the use of our digestive fire

We are creating a loving bond between our outside and inside world How beautiful is that??

Food is a relationship Period End of story And there is nothing in life but RELATIONSHIP

So some questions for us dear readers:

        1 Aren't all relationships sanctified? Don't we treasure our relationships?

        2 Shouldn't we revere food and respect what we put into our mindbodies?

        3 Should it not be harmonious with our own genetically driven mindbody energy patterns?

        4 Shouldn't we treasure, honor, and revere our relationships that we have with the foods and drinks that we consume which fortify our mindbodies?

I would have to say that until we decide to take this approach to nutrition NO change in our nutritional health will ever occur

Flexibility and Energy Science Nutrition

When I first started doing yoga positions and taking my stiff body through different positions it was quite a feat!

But as time passed I found some loosening occurring and then something very astounding to me happened

I began noticing and accepting of alternatives to various projects And that these alternatives which were there all along seemed to present themselves without my asking for them

In retrospect this isn't so surprising is it? After all if we are mindbodies and as my physical body became flexible then my mind had to become likewise

The challenge dear readers is the attention to the process of flexibility And it starts with little things

Nothing can be accomplished in life without flexibility Sounds outrageous doesn't it?

But let's think about it If I want to change anything in my day to day activities it demands that I am willing to bend and take on a different way of doing things 

The mindbody loves continuity It would be stressful to constantly be thinking about the next thing to do

"Let's see, what should I do next after brushing my teeth?"

We all love ritual because it frees us up But in the trenches of ritual, of the day to day humdrum of our same experience there lies the chance to engage with our innate desire to be flexible 

So it is with nutrition If we are going to change we have to recognize our flexibility in order to make it happen

Here are some tips on how to engage with your innate flexibility

        Try just one thing and do it for at least 4 weeks For example if you are a Pitta Vata then reducing tomatoes would be a good thing So for a time just focus on reducing tomatoes

        Don't try to do too much too soon or the mindbody will rebel

        If you cannot give something up like coffee then reduce the amount at first

        Trying substitutes for example tea for coffee can be a solution

        Try internal and/or external oleation

        Try yoga posture practice

        Remember it's about baby steps and the journey

Kitchen Chemistry

"Boy that salsa was hot!", Jim says as he downs another corn chip loaded with tomato

"I don't know why I do this because tomorrow I'm going to pay the price with heartburn and Rolaids but I just love the heat"

In energy science nutrition the kitchen is where the magic begins

You see if food is medicine and medicine is food then healing MUST begin in the kitchen

But it requires of us to start thinking about food not as molecules but as energy patterns

This isn't very difficult with guidance Just look at foodsheal.com and we can get accustomed as what foods provoke and which foods are good 24/7 Then there are those in the moderation column that should be used intermittently but not every day

Let's take a look at what Jim can do about cooling off the foods that he's taking in

    Using cilantro leaf in large amounts in the salsa will cool off the hot quality Even though it's not the best solution it can remedy some of the hot because coriander is a cooling digestant and cilantro is the leaf of the coriander plant

    Using peppermint and aloe gel and pomegranite can further cool off the hot quality

    If Jim was to continue his assault on his energy mindbody with marinera sauce he could try burping it with baking soda and watch the bubbles rise out of his sauce(no kidding!!)

But of course the best thing to do would be to leave the tomato and corn chip alone in the first place
