The Five Interrogatives of Nutrition

Bigstock_Question_Marks_Background_10163312
Bloating, poor digestion and elimination, acid indigestion

All symptoms of the bowel's inability to adequately digest, assimilate, absorb nutrients

From a matter science nutritional approach, since we are so fixated in the molecules being taken in and in what quantity, that we forget that if the gut is not healthy then all bets are off about nutrients

Here are five things that can help improve our digestive health

What  eating foods that produce balance in the physiology using the nutritional formats at foodsheal.com for PV or PK or VK; also watching food incompatabilities is also important and found at foodsheal.com

Where make a deal with yourself that you'll sit down to eat anything whether it's a meal or a piece of fruit

When  biggest meal should always be at noon whenever possible and avoid snacks

How  eat with attention and pay attention to how you feel after you've eaten particularly when foods that are on the no list from the foodsheal.com site

Why pay attention to eating emotionally; check in to why you are eating because at times we don't have an appetite but we eat anyway

From an energy science view digestion is improved with attention to the interrogatories  In this way our gut becomes healthier

The Sour Taste and Tissue Degeneration

Bigstock_Sour_Grimace_1671221
It's widely known that cultural diets that favor a more alkaline nature tend to promote within cultures greater longevity (eg Asian diets)

Animal based protein diets  which are high in acidity(fatty acids) demonstrate decreased longevity

Energetically the sour taste is the acid taste in Nature so from an energy science nutritional view meats rich in fatty acids are not the only culprits

So any acid in food carries energetically the sour taste  Even though we consider sour fruits acidic due to the ciric acid(eg grapefruit), we don't think of tomato, banana, nuts, mayonnaise, red meat(dark chicken, dark turkey, beef, duck, lamb, and pork) and egg yolk as sour  Even though they don't taste sour, energetically they physiologically produce the effects of sour

From an energy science view all six taste should be present at a meal for it to be balancing so a wee bit of sour is not a problem as experienced say in a churan

For Pitta Vata(PV) some the sour taste is important in moderation – not all the time but 1-2x per week

For a Pitta Kapha(PK) energy makeup the sour taste should be kept to a minimum

What happens when the physiology sees too much of the sour taste?  Energetically we find inflammation as the primary aspect of too much of the taste in the body and psychologically there is judgement, criticality, jealousy, and hate

As we can see the sour taste can lead to degenerative changes even in PV due to the inflammatory nature of the taste if it becomes excessive for that particular physiological pattern

A simple rule:  Eat according to your specific mindbody energy pattern

Support and Nutritional Lifestyle Change

Bigstock_Group_Of_Asian_Teens_2884157 Trying to do things differently is without a doubt the most difficult things we do as people

We know that the change is valuable at times but it's doing it that poses the problem

As we talked about on the last blog there are some creative steps that we can take to help make such changes but in the end it's up to us

One of the ways to help us along this line of work is to find support

This support may come in different forms

Group get togethers such as weight watchers

            Personal coach or lifestyle trainer

Company or organization that specializes in this form of support

Physician or office staff or both to help in the movement in a different direction

Notice that I didn't mention family  I'm not convinced that close relationships are ones that we are looking for when it comes to nutritional lifestyle change for a number of reasons

I also acknowledge that there are many other types of support groups that are "out there" that I have not mentioned

In the end the importance is to foster a relationship(s) that will help support your efforts in initiating a meaningful movement to evolutionary health

What’s Creative About Healing? 5 Steps

Bigstock_Creative_Bulb_Idea_6618807
Making different choices requires creativity

When we make a decision to heal it requires in every instance some creative effort

Even the decision to take a blood pressure pill requires a modest element of creative effort  When will I be taking this pill? Should I be doing it with food etc?

But what about weight loss programs? Yes they require effort on our part as well but the creative response gets ramped up

In every situation of change this creative response requires

Intention  decide what we want to do

Information   get more understanding of what needs to be done

            Incubation   wait for the answer

Insight    a new level of thinking about the problem

            Implementation   doing it

As we can see this creativity is about anything we do in life because if we broaden our definition about healing any new thing we do is bringing us to a new level of existence

But if we limit ourselves to say weight loss, it requires of us these steps  We may not recognize that we are using these steps but we are in different ways

My point is that healing requires that we disengage from old habits and create new ones by the above steps

It requires that we get out of our comfort zone and create a new way of living   Usually this requires pain as  the motivator otherwise we won't change  Be that as it may be, the coolest thing is when we do the creative thing because we know it's the right thing to do  And it's fun

Nutrition and One Stop Shopping

Bigstockphoto_Running_Man_With_Shopping_Cart_7006694Currently we have different matter science diets for identified diagnosis labels

High cholesterol?  Low fat diet

Overweight? Solution is obviously low calorie

Acid indigestion? Low acid diet for sure

But what if I were to tell you that one nutritional format fixes all problems?

Wow, an energy science approach can fix molecular problems  This is because an energy science nutritional format  brings about balance in the physiology

When balance occurs molecular health ensues  If balance is achieved, then the signs and symptoms of high cholesterol, being overweight, and hyperacidity disappear

One stop nutrition  Can't beat it!

If It Feels Good, It Must Be Right

Bigstock_Man_Feel_Free_Or_Freedom_2780545
There are many different phrases for this simple but elegant life wisdom

No pain, ultimate gain comes to mind and I imagine you can add your own favorites

And this "feel good" wisdom best describes what the energy sciences are all about

You see, it's in listening to the body that we find out whether what we have done through nutrition that gives us the feedback that it was or wasn't a good thing to take in

The nutritional formats of PV, PK, and VK  are guidelines that are offered to us and then we get to explore

The we get to pay attention to our 'feel good" wisdom  Did that food that was on the negative list make me feel poorly the next day or after I took it in for several days in a row

Since our energy fields report back to us through our sensations, the "feel good" wisdom that our body gives us can be a great guide toward making better choices

I think for me the converse of the "feel bad" wisdom is as equally important  It's not a mistake, it's an exploration as to what works and what doesn't work

There is no good or bad, right or wrong choice, there's only choice

The Joy of a Fracture Breaks Me Up

Bigstock_eps_Big_bone_tied_ribbon_10027577
Have you noticed that a problem causes you to change your way of thinking?

Example:  I fractured my arm in a skiing accident and over the last two weeks I've been seeing things in a different way

That is, I've been noticing how my body reacts to the pain of the fracture

"Well, of course, the body would react to pain," we say

It's a natural response of the body to wince with the pain that we experience  But what kind of response is it?

Pain brings about either a response of expansion or contraction, done emotionally, physically or mentally

What does this look like?

The posture or the body's position in space becomes straight or erect with the breath or it can assume a contracted posture(one of fear)

The interesting and unique observation I think is that we are the conscious choicemakers here

That is, if we choose expansion with the use of the breath we choose to go beyond the fear that holds us in the contracted state of fear brought about by the pain

What does this have to do with nutrition?

When we choose a different way of doing things it may cause us to contract emotionally

By choosing expansion and a change in posture we can go beyond or posture of fear

The choice of that realization of expansion is 80% of overcoming fear

The Breath and Healing

Bigstock_Older_Gentleman_Holding_Crutch_1035467

Does it sound surprising that the breath should be involved in healing a fracture or orthopedic injury?

Arguably one could make the assertion that the surrounding muscle and ligaments "tell" the bone how to mend and in what alignment  And this is probably so to a large degree

But what happens if the posture has not been so good in the past and now the tendency is to repeat the same posture in the future

The breath can be used consciously to bring a fresh alignment of the physically even it has been chronically fixed  This takes work but nonetheless it is a achievable

There is a tendency in all of us to lose our frame, some know more quickly than others  But the breath can help us return to that position in space where we are pr0perly aligned

And this goes particularly when we have been injured and mending a bone, or for that matter any musculoskeletal injury

Should You Eat If Injured?

Bigstock_Accident_With_Athlete_Snowboar_2782304An acute injury occurs  What to do?

First thing is to assess the injury and see what the damage is  Surprisingly this step is skipped and then later issues from not knowing the extent of the injury can be a problem

The next is to prepare the mindbody for healing  From a matter science view severe hospitalized injuries requiring ventilatory support represents less than 20% of injuries  The rest are treated at home

This is where the energy science can help play a role in getting through the healing of the injury, whether it be from surgery(controlled trauma) or sustainded by an accident

I've written in the past about the value of assessing the scraped surface of the tongue every morning because it gives us an insight into the functional health status of the GI(gastrointestinal) tract

Let's consider the appearance of the tongue in the aftermath of an acute orthopedic injury which is in my case was an arm fracture ocurring 7  days ago while skiing

Even though I've not been eating a lot of food because I have a poor appetite, the scraped tongue appearance mirrors what my appetite has already expressed  Don't eat  The taste buds are congested with white lymphatic fluid and this mirrors the GI lymphatics and their similar cogestion

This observation means the GI tract as an energy tube is not functional

It would seem reasonable to force eating and using supplements in the aftermath of a severe injury to recover from the injury because the mindbody would require calories  to heal

But both the GI tract and the tongue are telling me a different story

So what's a person to do?

If needing to eat use something simple to digest

Don't use supplements in the acute phase of recovery until tongue is back to preinjury status and appetite is back

Use juices instead if they satisfy the appetite

Pushing Too Hard

Smouldering Embers Ever had the sense that you're overdoing it?

This "overdoing" is an aspect of the Pitta energy pattern as a result of its intensity or the hot quality in an energy science view

Having too much creates problems

Relationships suffer because the heat is too much

Balanced regimen is great but intense regimen becomes rigidity

Intensity produces self criticism, judgement, and we do this to others

Overdoes everything, supplemental dosages, one's good, three's better etc

Suggestions for helping people do things can turn quickly into controlling or even telling people what to do or silently expecting them to do it our way

Accidents occur because people don't know when to call it quits  I'm a recepient of a ski accident a week ago due to not listening to the physical signs of overexertion

Overeating happens from too hot an appetite and trouble feelng satisfied when they've eaten enough

What to do?

Abiding by a nutritional format that fits your needs

Using cooling spices as suggested at foodsheal.com

Aloe gel is easy to take regularly and can help reduce the heat

            Avoid icy cold drinks

            Adhere to regular eating schedule
