Channels of Energy Flow: An Anatomy Lesson

Bigstock_Data_Tunnel_6607928

There are numerous examples of channels of energy flow in the body, the gastrointestinal(GI) system, blood vessels, the urinary tract, the reproductive system, the nervous system

Think about it, without bias and with fresh eyes

The GI system is merely a long tube that runs from the mouth to the other end; blood vessels are long channels of a tubular network, both on the venous and arterial sides, the heart being an expanded tube

The urinary system, although seemingly complex at the kidney level, is actually a series of tubes called nephrons that link with another tube, the collecting system which expands into a storage area we call the bladder, that then makes its way out to the body surface through a tube we call the urethra

In all of these examples the channels serve as conduits for, yes, blood, urine, and food that eventually is eliminated as stool  But can we simply reframe blood, urine and food that is from another view, energy?

Food is energy, correct? The same can be said for blood and urine, correct?

So these channels are energy channels as well  With me so far?

So what happens if I excessively consume the hot quality in the form of hot chiles, cayenne, horseradish, and tomatoes?  Eventually the hot quality shows up in the GI channel experienced as acid indigestion(heartburn) and diarrhea

This hot quality is now seen in other channels such as the blood channel and urinary channels  Then I begin sensing the hot quality in the blood channel as fever or feeling hot  In the urinary channel I sense burning on urination, frequency and urgency of urination, and a doctor may diagnose that I have a urinary tract infection

But I don't have a UTI, I'm just expressing the hot quality in my urinary tract!

The energy science medical model gives doctors another dimension in understanding dis-ease and can be quite enlightening

Osteoporosis and Sesame Seeds

Foods can be important supplements of needed nutrients in our diets

As a matter of fact, foods are probably more important as a source of nutrients than our favored supplemental pills  Why? How could this be?

The crystalline compounds that we ingest for, say, supplemental calcium are not in a recognizable state; they are in an unnatural form  They are like the picture without the picture frame so the body doesn't recognize the picture

Now sesame seeds, that's a different story  Sesame seeds are a good source of supplemental calcium and probably a whole lot cheaper than the pills

According to some sources a handful of white dried decorticated  sesame seeds has 1200mg of calcium and 500mg of magnesium and is a great habit to do in the morning routine  This alone can be helpful in reducing the risk of osteoporosis particularly in postmenopausal Pitta Vata women

Estrogen is necessary for maintaining healthy bone metabolism utilizing calcium, magnesium, zinc, and others for healthy bone structure

Since estrogen is reduced in postmenopausal women herbal replacement therapy would be advantageous as discussed in the past

And lastly improving the health of the colon is also important since it is  is a primary mineral absorption site in the GI tract  We can take all the supplements on the planet but if we don't have the ability to digest, absorb, and assimilate it won't be getting into the body

Psoriasis and Nutrition

Bigstock_Patient_With_Psoriasis_3027198 I came across some information on psoriasis and coconut oil on Twitter and thought I would look iinto it in more depth  Taken internally as well as applied directly to the psoriatic lesions, there are reports of significant improvement if not complete resolution of the lesions

Whenever I hear of "miracle reports" my bias is to apply the energy science principles to what is being reported to see if it makes sense

Nature provides cooling medicines for us in hot areas of the world such as the tropics  Since coconut is from the hot tropics, it can become a cold application to such as con this makes  This is similar to the experience we have with aloe vera gel

From an energy science view skin lesions are inflammatory dis-eases(increased Pitta) in the physiology due to the excess of the  hot quality

But in my browsing was something even more startling that I wanted to share becasue it completely attests to the effectiveness of nutrition in such inflammatory conditions

I ran across testimonials for the use of nutrition in the treatment of this difficult skin condition of which there is no good remedy from a matter science medical view point out that nutrition is an important step in healing and may be all that is needed

Now a matter field medical skeptic might attack such testimonials as "unscientiific" since there are not double blind controlled studies  But from an energy science view what is being reported is completely scientific

My point is that "It depends on one's world view", doesn't it?  Matter science or energy science, you pick

What Lifestyle Changes Will It Be?

Bigstock_A_New_Dawn_1822342 So when we started this "white elephant series" we suggested that there were lifestyle patterns of nutrition that could be helpful for us to create balance in the physiology

And then we saw that the mind's interference through fear of change was a stumbling block  And that there were prices to be paid for neglecting our resistance to change(the white elephant)

We saw that support groups would be a way to help us with changing lifestyle nutritional patterns, nicely done through interactive cluster support of the support group

The last burning question then is, "So if nutritional change is good, then what nutritional change?"

This is a significant dilema because who says that whatever we decide to do is the correct decision?

What Changes are Suggested?

This becomes a real sticky wicket because everyone has their idea about what the best changes should be  But we're all about nutrition here, so I'll give my 2 cents worth on a nutritional system that gives us a new starting point

The 15 suggestions given when we began this series is a good starting point

Why?

Because the energy science nutritional approach is complete as compared to the fragmented "fad diet" molecular matter science approach

You Be the Judge

In the end each one of us is the decision maker  Right?

The primary urge of being human is to be in charge of her/his own destiny The freedom to make our own choices and not be told what to do(as a matter of fact, many will react by doing the opposite if told what to do!)

As the commercial says, "Try it, you may(editorializing) like it!"

Testing Testing Testing

The way I see it is that each of us is our own little laboratory of trying things out  We tweak a variable(for example, trying out a sesame oil swish in the am) and see what it's like

Then maybe try splashing cool water on the face in the am to wake up the mindbody

Then maybe try avoiding certain food combinations in the smoothie

Etc, etc  But be curious and fascinated with what's happening as you do this or that

Fear Eliminated

Here's the point  When we get fascinated, intrigued, focused on the newness, excited about the subtle change that we may encounter, health is no longer taking pills or going to the doctor, it becomes fun and exhiliarating

We can no longer be scared of moving out of our well worn ruts of nutritional behavavioral patterns

Lifestyle Behavior and Social Groups

Bigstock_Workers_People_5214348 Let's face it, we're social beings and want to get along with the people around us so we more or less will move along with the group

Have you noticed that when we're in groups it seems that we get swept up with what the group's expectations are? This can be valuable if we share what the group wants

So if change is fearful for people, then dis-ease models would suggest that support groups would help with resistance to change

Recently a social researcher at MIT published interesting observations about online support group behavior

Supportive Clusters

What Centola found was that individuals are more likely to acquire new health practices while living in networks with dense clusters of connections — that is, when in close contact with people they already know well  The denser the cluster the better

Now this doesn't seem unusual at all  We all have had the experience of trust if we know the people around us and not so much trust if we know no one but for trust to really happen the more involved the better the trust and more effective is ability of the group to induce change of ingrained unhealthy behavior patterns

The concept of "health buddies" within the clustered group began to surface as an observation

“Social reinforcement from multiple health buddies made participants much more willing to adopt the behavior,” noted Centola

It's All About Trust and Relationship in Clusters

I believe that the group would function best when people know one another, particularly for online support groups  At least if  I know Jim is doing it, then I can trust Sally who I have never met before

The cluster must in some way be energetically connected  Hence relationship plays a pivotal  role in making clusters work to make lifestyle  changes

But the power of transformation(change to a healthy habit) by the group lies in the innocence of the individuals involved, that is, trust brought about by the relationships they share

Undaunting Force Field Created by Clusters

But the unbelievable force field created by these cluster groups has the potential to move far beyond the group and the transformations that occur within it

It has the power to change or impact other clusters as well  This is real viral spread  A viral particle notas we know it but one of thought

And then our health on the planet as well as individually will evolve

Reinforcement of Habits and The White Elephant: A Solution

Memory is the retention of experience in the mind in the form of impressions and held in the energy field of the mindbody in the bone structure

Ordinarily, when the mind is directed outward toward the sense objects, the impressions formed in the mind only serve to reinforce our habits and thought patterns that keep us identified with the external world

We tend to see the world in the same way we have always seen it  Hence our world view is comfortingly maintained because we see it as the way we want to see it

Quieting the mind is a way of detaching from our world views and being able then to stare down the noise of our white elephants(0ur fears whatever they may be)

There are many ways to quiet the mind  Believe it or not, nutrition can be a vehicle to quiet the mind  How can this be? It's related to the fact that the mind and body are intimately spliced  If there is turbulence in the body there will be guaranteed turbulence in the mind

Turbulence in the mind is not a quiet mind  And there are many habits that we create for ourselves that do not nourish a quiet mind and nutrition is one of them

So next time you notice a particularly busy mind, look at what you ate and see if it's on your no list!

Neglecting White Elephants

Bigstock_Elephant_4832382Yesterday we spoke about the fear we have with change and how it's difficult to overcome the inertia that is manifested in doing lifestyle behaviors that engenders better health and hence more pleasure, joy, and happiness in life

We likened our fear to change as a white elephant in the living room  We all have it but somehow it's  not recognized as fear; inertia is justified as change is not necessary  What's suggested is not appealing or down right wrong!  Or "Gee, what was I going to do?"

All and more work in order to keep us in our own well worn ruts and inertia is established as a pattern of behavior

The Results of Neglecting the White Elephant

The reason that fear of change  is becoming glaringly obvious is that our health habits living in abundant societies are getting us into significant health problems

Witness our epidemic of the overweight condition in not only adults but now in our children  And now the fact that our children are expected to live less long as a life expectancy than people living today  What kind of legacy is that to leave our children, let alone the health of our planet!

But there is much more  How about the increasing rise of cancers of all types?  The increased use of drugs to solve acid indigestion and social issues such as road rage and divorce with resultant fragmented families

Can we afford as a community to ignore our health when it affects us in so many diverse ways?  And it's not somebody else's problem  We all share in this deal, call it community or global health if you will

But we all participate in the deteriorating or improving health of our community  It's just not the "other guy's problem-I'm OK" kind of deal

Global Health

And believe it or not,  if we expand our community of family, city, state, country this issue of health is a threat to the global health of our Mother Earth

Health is not a static process  It's not something that we get or lose, health is a skill that we achieve, not by good luck, but by consciously making better choices for our own well being

Gandhi is often quoted as saying, "Be the change you want to see in your world"

If we want to see better health then we should strive to be healthier ourselves

Until tomorrow when we talk about "What can we do to support lifestyle nutritional behavior patterns?"

Habits and Fear of Change

Bigstock_Elephant_4832382

I have now talked with many a patient about changing up the way they do nutrition but unless there is considerable pain, emotional or otherwise, chances are there may be difficulty

We'll give it lip service especially to the doc who is the authority figure because we don't want to disappoint her/him

The White Elephant

Now this lethargy to change is not a judgement(an 0pinion with emotion) but a simple fact of human existence

Why is this? Change invokes fear of moving from our comfort zone  And this is not right or wrong! This is not moralizing about our conduct   It's simply the case of us being human and walking on this planet

I think the most important aspect of this fear of change issue is recognition that it is present in the first place   It's like the white elephant in the living room Nobody seems to want to talk about why we have such problems

It's true that change is hard  So let's own it

As Charlie Schultz's character would say, "We have met the enemy and it is us!"

It's becoming increasingly clear that the hardest thing we do in life is change our lifestyle patterns, particularly around nutrition

So this is the problem  We would like to change the way we do things but we don't

How Come?

In the ensuing days we'll go into more depth about this issue because it gets to what I believe is a major stumblinig block when it comes to this concept of an evolving state of health

In order to evolve our health we have to be willing to embrace this fear of change since evolution requires us to trade in our current lifestyle habits for healthier ones

Lifestyle Nutritional Habits: 15 Worthwhile Behaviors

From an energy science view there are nutritional habits that naturally bring balance to the physiologyand hence an evolving state of health

What are these habits?

Eating foods that are appropriate for one's energy makeup

Eating foods that are compatable with one another

Developing habits that cultivate and nourish a strong digestive system

Eating the biggest meal of the day at noon

Use of a spices as digestants

Drink room temperature fluids and avoid ice

Fasting, using juice, kichari or some form of monodiet

                    No snacks between meals

Size of the meals around two handfuls

                   Try to avoid overeating

                    Exercise

Sit to eat so as to pay attention(digestion improves with attention)

Eat in quiet spaces in order to pay attention to the eating process

Scraping the tongue in the morning to stimulate the GI tract

Sesame oil swish in the am to improve oral cavity hygeine improving the receptivity of the first part of the body that begins the process of nourishment

Notice that only two of these recommended nutritional habits have something to do with food selections  The remainder are about when, where, why, and how about the eating process

This list is to demonstrate to us that the nutritional process is so much more than "Is lycopene important in my diet?"

Do you know of any nutritional systems that discusses these types of habits and/or consider them important?

What I would like to discuss in the next four ensuing posts is why we have difficulty in changing our nutritional habits, why it's important to consider change, and what can we do to help support one another if we can see that this change is what we would like to undertake

Emergence of a New Healing Tradition

Bigstockphoto_E_mc__Theoretical_Physics_426390

There is a growing awareness and discontent by the medical healing community and the government that our current tradition is not addressing the needs of the consumer efficiently

"How can we fix it," we ask

To answer this tough question, I think we need to step back and better understand who we are

Matter Science Healing

Today what does healing look like? From my vantage point as a practitioner in today's mainstream medicine, we do dis-ease detection and treatment  We identify a dis-ease, for example prostate cancer, then we treat it in different ways based on the patient and physician's discussion

But what happens when we can't assign a dis-ease label? What then? If mainstream medicine can't help then maybe "alternative" therapies can help

But what about these "alternative" treatments? Where do they fit in? Yoga, meditation, tai chi, qi gong, herbal therapies, the list can go on

Today's Science Can Help Sort It Out  (E=mc2)

We know that our bodies are both matter and energy fields  What we do when we operate on the body, measure molecules in the blood, or take molecules in the form of supplements, we are doing matter(molecular) field work

But when we apply "alternative" techniques we are for the most part doing energy field work

The mindbody is more complex than we can imagine and because of that a new biological model is emerging that is ancient yet very contemporary with present worldview of quantum reality

Medical Schools and Integrative Programs

Such training programs as  Duke university's  integrative medicine  is one of many in the country studying these "alternative" techniques and their role in healing

Holistic, integrated approaches to healing?

Begs the question, "What's being integrated here?"

Integration of Healing

To integrate means to make one  An integrated system of healing would imply that the system recognizes itself as addressing both the matter field aspects of healing as well as those of the energy field  That healing requires both a matter and energy field approach

Of course the question, "Where's the proof that it works?", queries the evidence based matter science healers  This is where the research comes into play to help sort it out

If we are truly going to integrate we should understand the concept of energy and matter science otherwise we potentially will be doing matter science alternatively

This requires a healthy understanding of the energy science in its basic tenets, that is, to understand the basic differences between how healing is currently being done and what is it that we bring to the party when we introduce the energy sciences

Our Part

What's a person to do?

Clearly understand the limitations of the matter science healing traditions

Clearly understand the limitations of the energy science healing traditions

Take on the responsibility for our own healing, for example, doing energy science nutritition
