Hormone Replacement Therapy and Breast Cancer
Recently in the Journal of the American Medical Association Rowan Chlebowski et al using the data from the Women's Health Initiative involving major medical centers across the US again substantiated the relationship between breast cancer and hormone replacement therapy(HRT) and breast cancer
There has been rising evidence in the medical literature regarding this relationship of breast cancer, particularly more aggressive cancers, in women who are using estrogen postmenopausal supplementation It's probably not the estrogen but the progestin that is the culprit but it's a serious problem But if a woman has a uterus she needs the progestin to reduce the risk of endometrial cancer A catch 22 if you will
Why is it that 5% of women in Spain use HRT and 20% of US women use it? Perhaps tolerance to symptoms is a problem but we should ask the question are the symptoms severe enough to be on such treatment? But this also begs the question whether natural treatment such as herbal supplementation could suffice such as shatavari even for incapacitating symptoms
And of course the foundation of all therapies that we should not forget is nutritional information to begin to bring about balance in the physiology
